LINCOLN — A University of Nebraska-Lincoln researcher said Tuesday that he’s received federal approval to plant the state’s first research plot of industrial hemp.

As the government considers reclassifying cannabis, researchers say easing the rules could lead to big advances.

Hemp can now be legally planted in West Virginia for the first time in 70 years. The hemp seeds will be planted as part of one West Virginia University study.

At a recent presentation, a scientist described how he and his team were able to recycle leftover hemp bast fiber into powerful energy-storing supercapacitors.

BATON ROUGE — University agriculture centers might soon be able to start growing marijuana and its plant cousin, hemp, for industrial and medicinal purposes.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marijuana’s high-less cousin is a step closer to returning to Indiana. Lawmakers have allowed the state seed commissioner to license farmers to grow industrial hemp - if and when the federal government stops treating it like a Schedule I drug.
