The receptor in the brain involved in the "high" people feel after smoking marijuana is revealed in a new, detailed, 3D image today, according to a new study.

DALLAS – Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center report the most detailed 3-D structure to date of the brain receptor that binds and responds to the chemical at the root of marijuana’s high.

Before cannabinoid testing and genetic profiling of the cannabis plant, consumers would judge a batch of weed based on its smell, taste, and color.

Consumers who live in states with legalized private cannabis markets have access to more potent and chemically diverse pot than marijuana researchers.

There are nearly 500 natural compounds in marijuana and over 100 of those chemical compounds (thanks to a recent discovery) are called cannabinoids.
