The Canadian government is scrambling to respond to a glut of license applications for cannabis research prompted by the drug’s legalization in October 2018. The queue of applicants—there were 251 in line as of late July—and the attendant monthslong waiting times are frustrating scientists interested in the basic biology and therapeutic possibilities of cannabis. The delays are also prompting criticism of Health Canada, the agency charged with issuing the permits.

According to a poll from Investor’s Business Daily and TIPP, 63 percent of Americans support cannabis legalization, including 75 percent of Democrats, 66 percent of independents, and 46 percent of Republicans.

In some places, the legal age to consume cannabis is 18 with a medical card; some places it’s 21 with valid ID. That means young cannabis consumers, especially those of college age, are all over the place. Both groups are fully legal and justified, however the cannabis industry still runs from addressing these age groups due to the stigma surrounding “kids and weed.”

When cannabis oil is mixed with essential oils from other plants, the presence of new terpenes can also make a significant contribution to the process.

In July, to commemorate their first anniversary, a Colorado couple in their 30s wanted a treat that would help them extend the high of their special day: custom gold-foil-tipped marijuana cigars.

“The findings demonstrate the potential for this new cannabis derivative in the treatment of both localized and advanced pancreatic cancer,” the study’s authors wrote. “The results justify further studies to optimize therapy outcomes toward clinical translation.”
