Officially, Colorado hasn't been very hospitable to tourists coming here to partake in the state's legal pot industry, with zero state-licensed consumption areas since recreational dispensaries first opened in 2014. But visiting cannabis users now have a powerful ally with the ear of Governor Jared Polis.

The American Bar Association (ABA) adopted a resolution on Monday that calls on Congress to allow states to set their own marijuana policies and recommends rescheduling or descheduling cannabis under federal law.

With new state rules on how to grow, sell and buy recreational marijuana poised to take effect in September and retail stores expected to open early next year, Maine cities are scrambling with how to handle the expected deluge of new businesses.

The crop’s legalization could change the industry — and threaten cotton’s dominance.

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) aims the report at lawmakers each year, prodding them to make progress relative to their neighbors.

Used in Europe for more than 3,200 years, hemp today represents an annual market opportunity of $1 bn (~€692m) for the continent, and over $3.7 bn globally in 2018.
